As we all start to get back to a normal life schedule following some extended holiday time, some planned and some forced upon us by the beautiful snow falls we've had, I wanted to give an update on what council has been up to this past month.  We had two public meetings in January, one dealing with the budget and another general session meeting with full council.  I will try to use this article from time to time to give you some highlights and updates.  Due to limited space, we can't possibly cover all the items, so please feel free to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Like most things, holiday traditions tend to have their cycles.  At my family's Christmas gatherings when I was younger, kids were never sure of what they would be getting from their parents or grandparents.  I remember always being surprised -- sometimes pleasantly, sometimes not so much.  Now it seems that we all know what's coming and we've recently gone through a stage where we would only give out gift cards.  We realized that we were just exchanging plastic cards from all the same places, so now we have decided to get back to the more traditional gifts.   I've also noticed that the kids' wish list has changed over the years.  When they were younger, you could hardly walk into the living room Christmas morning for all the presents.  Now, if the price tag is any indication, they are much more interested in quality, not quantity.

Even in these dark economic times it's easy to find many things to be thankful for.  Not the least of which is this still great and free country in which we live.  We are also thankful for all of the men and women who made and continue to make great sacrifices in protecting this land and fighting for those freedoms.  We should never make the mistake of losing sight of freedom's cost or its worth.
